On April 1, 2025, 100 pure electric buses from Golden Dragon Bus were delivered to Ethiopia, marking a new stage in the cooperation between China and Ethiopia in the field of green transportation. This is the first large-scale pure electric bus operation project in East Africa and an important practice for the Ethiopian capital to promote the policy of "banning fuel vehicles and promoting electric vehicles."
Golden Dragon Bus has been cooperating with Ethiopia's BKG Group since 2014. Both parties have promoted Ethiopia's transportation upgrade with "high standards, high configuration and high quality". By 2025, Golden Dragon Bus will have 900 new energy buses in Ethiopia, ranking first in the market.
The 100 pure electric buses delivered this time were assembled locally in Ethiopia in the form of KD parts, equipped with CATL batteries and Chinese standard charging facilities, and adapted to the Ethiopian power grid standards. Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe said that it can ease travel pressure and practice green development. The vehicles previously put into use have reduced a lot of carbon emissions. The Ethiopian government has included the construction of charging piles in its plan, plans to reduce the proportion of fossil energy consumption in the transportation sector, and has introduced relevant policies to encourage green transportation construction.
The Ethiopian capital is optimizing its transportation network. The combination of green transportation and the youth population dividend will accelerate Africa's energy transformation and sustainable development. The cooperation between Golden Dragon Bus and Ethiopia is a model of China-Africa capacity cooperation, and illustrates the commitment of "Made in China" to help Africa's green industrialization.
